Our Story

ICHS CLASS OF 1972 REUNION FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE

Phenomenal Women Looking Back and Reaching Forward, Passing on our Light

Our Alma Mater is a national treasure. As graduates from this prestigious institution, we have excelled in our respective fields in Jamaica and around the world .The ICHS Class of '72 is celebrating it's Golden Jubilee this year. To mark this milestone we have decided to leave a lasting legacy to the institution that has done so much to make us the phenomenal women that we are. This legacy is twofold:

1. We have decided to establish the ICHS Class of 1972 Scholarship Fund to assist high-performing students who demonstrate a commitment to the school's values and who are facing financial challenges. With this financial assistance and mentoring from our Alumnae, these students will be able to go on to realize their full potential and give back not only to our Alma Mater, but to the Jamaican society and, beyond.

2.  We have also decided to make a contribution to the ICHS Symphony Orchestra by jointly organizing with the school two Fundraising concerts to be held at the Jamaica College Auditorium on November 6th this year. Proceeds from these concerts will be used for the maintenance of instruments and further instruction of the Orchestra members.

Many of you have seen at least one the amazing performances of the ICHS symphony orchestra under the direction of Mr Steven Woodham. Participation in the Orchestra not only develops the musical skills of the students ; it also helps build teamwork and leadership skills and fosters within them an awareness of social and cultural issues.

ICHS CLASS OF 1972 50th REUNION ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

Immaculate Conception High School Symphony

Orchestra Fundraiser 2022

(Under the auspices of the Class of 1972 ICHS Alumnae)

August 2022

Dear fellow alumnae, Under the patronage of world-renowned violinist Ms. Shirley Thompson OBE, the Immaculate Conception High School (ICHS) Symphony Orchestra will present two fundraising concerts on Sunday, 6 November 2022 at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium, Jamaica College. We would like to invite you to support this effort through sponsorship and/or the purchase of block tickets.

Proceeds of the concerts will go towards the maintenance and upgrade of instruments, purchase of new instruments, additional instruction for the students, as well as Alumnae scholarships that enable deserving but disenfranchised young women to attend ICHS.

The ICHS Symphony Orchestra is the only school-based orchestra of its kind and scale in Jamaica. The Covid-19 pandemic reduced a robust 160-strong group to a now potent 60. However, these 60 student musicians remain committed to their craft and with their conductor Mr. Steven Woodham at the helm, they are determined to rebuild.

The 6 November programme will be diverse: traditional pieces will act as counterpoint to modern and locally composed music. The programme will be delivered via two concerts, with the 1:00 pm concert targeting students and their families and the 5.00 p.m. concert targeting adults/general audiences. Both concerts will also be live streamed; we are making a concerted effort to target ICHS alumnae in the Diaspora. We expect each in-person concert to attract 800 patrons and are aiming for a virtual audience of 1,000 people per concert. Please consider purchasing one of the sponsorship packages outlined below. If you cannot purchase a package, your support in any way will be appreciated. For example, if your personal network includes corporations who would sponsor this kind of event, please contact us at ICHS class72@gmail.com These young musicians need your help to make this concert happen. We appeal to you to become a sponsor of the ICHS Symphony Orchestra 2022 concert series. Help the Orchestra re-tool. Help stage the event and come experience the music as it flows and heals us.

Sincerely,

Althea Byll-Cataria Chair, ICHS Class of ‘72 Fundraising Subcommittee

Dr. Arna J Brown-Morgan Chair, ICHS Class of ‘72 ICHS Symphony Orchestra Fundraising Sub-committee
